New lenses under the surface in 2024

What new lens types are there for underwater use these days and why should you use them? A wide-angle lens gives you the opportunity to photograph large animals and wide environments with a professional result and crisp sharpness. A wet macro lens allows you to increase your magnification while diving, and in some cases allows you to shoot in "super macro mode".

The wide lens takes the compact camera to a new level

In principle, all compact cameras need the help of a "wet" wide-angle lens for wide images, or videos, of large subjects, landscapes, coral reefs or divers. In our opinion, it really is a "must" to have the wide lens for the compact camera on your next diving trip. Let us help you find what is best for your camera. The lenses cost from SEK 1,950 and up...

Lenses for Mirrorless & DSLR

The new so-called "wet" wide-angle lenses are now popular alternatives to the traditional solution with a lens and dome port. An example is the FCP (Fisheye Conversion Port) from Nauticam which quickly became Alex Mustard's favourite as a Sony user. The FCP is sharp, with a 170 degree image angle, has a large zoom range with a 28-60 mm lens on the inside, and whose closest focus is right up to the lens glass.

The idea with the new wide "wet lenses" (large and small) is that the uw photographer uses a simple 28-60 mm lens behind both the straight-drawn lens "wet" wide angle (such as Nauticam's WWL-1B) and/or behind the fisheye lens (such as the FCP ). It creates outstanding photo opportunities, and in most cases you can cut down on the number of ports and accessories, resulting in less packing on the trip.

On the macro side, it's now almost standard to have a "boosting" macro lens on the outside of the port, which you can fold down if needed. Nauticam, Saga and Inon make sharp lenses. The new EMWL (Extended Macro Wide Lens) from Nauticam is an example of a special macro lens that can create wide-angle character in your macro images. The EMWL system is a modular system, so you can start with the parts you find most interesting, and then expand as you go.

Video Pro

These are roughly the same lenses that are popular for Mirrorless cameras that are mounted on Video Pro camera bodies for eg RED, Arri, Black Magic and more. Above all, the "wet" wide-angle lenses from Nauticam are popular tools for creating broadcast quality (ie WWL-1B, WACP-1, WACP-2 and FCP).

GoPro and phone below the surface

GoPro, action cameras and mobile phones are best used in a safe underwater housing that also gives you the opportunity to dive a little deeper. There are now nice wide-angle solutions, and we are experts in picking out affordable solutions that give you extra sharp footage of your memorable moments below the surface.
